I found an amazing spot this morning, perfect for the beginning bike rider. Carrs park at Blakehurst, just off the Princess Highway. Silly me I was there with the Tag-along bike, I should have come with Max`s bike instead. As far as the best places for family bike rides in Sydney, this would have to be well up there. Certainly for the beginning rider.
Carrs park is right at the end of King Georges road, best accessed of the Princess Hwy at Carwar ave. (interesting name). The carpark is not big and with a sports field next door could make it interesting on a Saturday morning. Other places you can park and access from are Bunyala st which is both on the North side and South side of the park. (but does not join.)
The nearest Train station is Allawah and would be 2km from the park.
Total distance riding all around the park was only about 3km, it is pretty much flat but does rise up the further you go away from the water. You can ride as little or as much as you want. Miniloops abound and with a central playground and cafe, kids can go out and come back as they please.
This place really has it all, a beach, a playground, a cafe and Grill, bbqs, a bushwalking track, shady paths, big boulders, beautiful gums, huge areas of grass to lounge on, did I mention the cafe? All it needs is a couple of Dinosaurs and it would be kids paradise.
There is a short bushwalk up and over the hill in the center of the park.
At the western end of the park, around what is called Todd park, is a handful of bike skill tests for young riders to try their hand at, a slalom, a rollover and some small bridges. Keen young ones will be busy for hrs here.
Take the scooter, take the balance bike, take the swimmers. You will love it.
